Order a Kitchen through Wren Kitchens and Have Part of it Installed by a Paedophile!

I recently decided to give my kitchen a much-needed makeover. Like many average blokes, I know next to nothing about plumbing, fitting, plastering, or tiling. My rolladeck of contacts is devoid of such tradesmen. So, what do you do? You turn to Google and stumble upon one of the so-called “premier players” in the market: Wren Kitchens. You visit their showroom, plan what you want, hand over a small fortune, and then sit back, waiting for their appointed kitchen fitters to transform your space. But what happens when one of the installers they send to your home turns out to be a convicted paedophile?

Yes, you read that correctly. The date of installation finally arrives. You invite all the tradesmen into your home, the very place where your 6-year-old child lives and plays. But then, the unthinkable happens: one of these men, who Wren Kitchens sent to my home, is a convicted paedophile. This man served five years in prison for the heinous abuse of young boys between the ages of 4 and 11 and is featured on the BBC News.

Outraged and horrified, I immediately called Wren Kitchens. Surely, they would be just as appalled as I was. Surely, they would understand the gravity of their mistake. I asked them point-blank, “Do you think it’s reasonable or right to send a convicted child abuser into people’s homes?” Expecting an apology and a promise of stringent background checks in the future, their reply was nothing short of astonishing: “The fitters are nothing to do with us.”

I’m sorry, what? I came to Wren Kitchens to purchase a complete kitchen installation service. They organised the lot and I paid them handsomely for the pleasure. Yet now, they want to wash their hands of any responsibility?

This level of negligence is not just unacceptable; it’s downright dangerous. How can a company with such a prominent reputation allow this to happen? How can they send someone with such a vile past into the homes of unsuspecting families? It’s not just a matter of poor judgment—it’s a serious breach of trust and a massive safety hazard.

Only when I mentioned going to the press did I finally get a manager on the phone and a half-hearted apology. But an apology isn’t enough. What about the countless other families who might be exposed to similar risks? How many other convicted criminals are being sent into our homes under the guise of professional service?

This incident has raised serious questions about Wren Kitchens’ vetting process for their contractors. How thorough are their background checks? Do they even bother to perform them? In a world where safeguarding our children should be a top priority, this kind of oversight is inexcusable.

Wren Kitchens needs to take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of their customers. They must implement rigorous background checks and ensure that no convicted criminals are ever sent into their customers’ homes again. Anything less is simply not acceptable.

Families trust companies like Wren Kitchens with their homes and their safety. That trust should never be betrayed. It’s time for Wren Kitchens to step up, take responsibility, and ensure that this never happens again. Until then, I urge all potential customers to think twice before trusting Wren Kitchens with their homes. You never know who might be walking through your front door.
